Independence Hub is a joint development effort by five oil operating companies. It houses multiple ultra-deepwater oil and gas production platforms. It is located in Mississippi Canyon, block 920 in the Gulf of Mexico in an area that had previously been untapped. The water depth is 8,000 feet. It is based on six anchor fields in areas where the water depth ranges from 7,800 feet to 9,000 feet.
The hub was first operational in 2007 and reached its design capacity of one billion cubic feet of natural gas per day that same year. New wells will be connected to the hub as they are completed.
The hub currently accommodates the Atlas, Jubilee, Merganser, San Jacinto, Spiderman, Vortex, Mondo and Q wells. Both Atlas and Jubilee are owned and operated by Anadarko Petroleum. Atlas is located in almost 9,000 feet of water and was soon followed by Atlas NW. Jubilee.
Oil Rig Safety
The gas and oil industries are inherently dangerous for workers. The depth and location of offshore oil fields make them hazardous, yet they provide high-quality resources that are necessary for our utilization and economy. Some of the most dangerous situations include fires or explosions, hot work accidents, accidents with cranes and other heavy machinery and falls.
Companies are required to provide a safe working environment for employees. The company must have procedures in place to properly train workers on safe equipment operation and safe work practices. Workers should use personal protective equipment when possible. Workers must have a work plan, and if something goes wrong, they need to take precautions to stay out of harm’s way.
Serious injuries can occur during offshore operations. The company must render immediate medical evaluation and care and have a plan in place to evacuate the injured workers to a hospital located on shore as quickly as possible. The failure to provide for the health and safety of workers might be considered negligence. If you were hurt in an accident at Independence Hub or any offshore facility, we can help protect your rights. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.
